What's the best workout to lose fat?

On a daily basis personal questions for worldwide clients and fitness enthusiasts pop on my social media and e-mail (I am blessed to have so many people interested in changing their lives contacting me). One of the biggest myths I seem to encounter is the question “what is the best workout to burn fat” and the truth is there’s a very simple and to the point answer to that. All workouts help you burn fat and there is no specific training that will not help your burn fat. All physical activity will raise your heart rate and help you to some extent. But that’s too ‘vague’ of an answer. The truth is, there are certain workouts that benefit you more than the others on the long turn battle against obesity and weight loss. But it’s a myth that there is only one type of workout to do this. Secondly, NO WORKOUT, I repeat that, NO WORKOUT will work for you and your goals if A.) Your nutrition is not on point/par with your goals and B.) You aren’t consistent.

The fitness community and world can be very confusing. Who are we kidding? Sometimes it can be as confusing as calculus was for me in college. Every day there are new trends on the market and it seems every month someone has found the magic solution to burning more fat. But stay away from all of these trends and simply stick to the basics; get your butt off the couch and start doing something physically active. But that doesn’t stop there. Be consistent with your physical activity and also know what you are eating. But this is a training article so let’s go back to specifics on training and weight loss.

By you haven’t been living under a rock for the past decade you now know what HIIT is. If you don’t then look it up. HIIT basically stands for High Intensity Interval Training. On several studies HIIT has been shown to burn more fat in less time. But you don’t need studies to figure that if you move like your having a heart attack in a smaller time period your heart rate will keep and stay up and you will burn more calories. In fact HIIT is such a big style of training that Cross fit, Orange Theory and other styles andclubs have based their entire workouts around it. So is HIIT a better workout style for anyone looking to lose weight faster? That depends. Do you have any injuries? Are you obese? Are you just starting to get into exercise? If you have answered yes to any of these or multiple of these than you should probably check your doctor (everyone should check their doctors prior to any nutritional or physical activity) and see what they say about this style of training. Why do I mention obese people? Because on a large scale their blood pressure is higher and they might have chances of heart problems so something like an entire 35 minutes of elevated heart rate might not be the best option for them. Why did I mention anyone with injuries? Because HIIT style training will keep you moving non stop and if you have any injuries youmight want to be careful that you don’t worsen it by moving without thinking about what you are doing.

But is HIIT still the best way to lose weight faster? No. As I began this blog, any type of exercise combined with the proper nutrition and consistency on the user will lead to good goals. There is no “magic” workout to lose more body fat faster than the other. It’s all about how many calories you are burning a day. Let’s talk about muscle now too. The more muscle someone has the higher their metabolic rate will be. Why? Because the body needs to burn more calories to sustain lean muscle. So when people tell me they are doing cardio non stop but don’t have a strength & conditioning program along side with it I highly encourage they start adding some sort of weighted and resistance program immediately. Combined cardiovascular work or HIIT with loaded resistance will generate a better outcome on the long term. Especially for the ladies who are looking to build their bubble butts and “toned” legs.

‘What’s the best workout to lose fat’? that will depend on you and the following factors listed below:

  • Your current physical and cardiovascular health and experience

  • Your nutrition

  • Your consistency

  • Your Goals (do you want more muscle as well or just lose weight)

  • The resources and equipment you have access too

  • You Determination Factor

  • Your genes (to small yet somewhat extent)

But what do all of the above have in common? YOU MUST GET YOUR BUTT AND DO SOMETHING. There is NO magic pill or workout that will blast away your fat.
