Making YOURSELF accountable

Have you noticed how busy gyms are the first week of January? Then the second week, still busy but not as bad as the first week. By the third week it seems like half the people from the first week aren’t there. By early February the gyms usually look almost empty. 80% of people who started in the beginning of the year quit by February already and only 10% of people actually stay consistent with their new year’s resolution throughout their entire year. Only 10%. It’s sad. But there’s an explanation to all of this and it’s actually quite simple. The first reason is they believed it would be easy and second that their will power diminished day by day because of the first point. So here’s a few pointed on how to keep on track this 2016 and understand how to push through even the hard times.
Assume FULL responsibility – your daily actions today lead to the future habits you will be creating. Habits control your future and if you don’t have control of them today forget about having a better healthier future tomorrow. Your trainer, nutritionist or coach have no fault that you aren’t willing to change your habits. They are they to lead you when you can’t push yourself, but don’t go to a trainer or coach expecting to find motivation. You MUST have it already when you hire them.
Patience – 3 weeks in the gym won’t change the years of bad habits you have been doing to your body. Why do you think it’s okay to blame anything but yourself for all the junk food or unhealthy eating habits and expect your body to be happy at you with only a few weeks or exercise? You must have patience and be disciplined on a large % daily. Otherwise forget about results.
Goals- Saying I want to lose 20lbs this year isn’t enough. First you need a goals that can be measurable on the short and long term. Secondly you need strong reasons that will keep you motivated even when things get hard. If saying I want to lose 20lbs this year is enough most likely you will try and do things fast, without a plan and unorganized. This will end up as a failure. Failing to prepare leads to failure from day 1.
Educate – Most people these days just want to use SIRI or their voice recognition to find quick answers to anything. You must educate yourself on all matters of nutrition, training, supplementation, rest, etc… “That’s not my job, that’s why I hire a trainer” is what many will say when I tell them to educate themselves, but guess what? You don’t buy a car without first learning how to drive it right? People don’t say “I’m just going to hire a driver my whole life” you actually LEARN how to drive. Same thing, get your laziness aside and learn the fundamentals of your body, how to eat properly and stay motivated for yourself.
